What is CARISA?

CARISA is a website that helps you understand your risk for cancer and what you can do to help lower that risk. The site features a series of interactive assessments that calculate your risk for five different types of cancer. Taking an assessment will help you learn what factors may be increasing or decreasing your risk of developing a specific type of cancer. At the end of each assessment you receive a personalised risk report and action plans to reduce cancer risks. The assessments cannot predict if you will get cancer or not, but they can help you focus on specific changes you can make to lower your cancer risk and live a healthier life. You will also find useful information on risk factors and cancer prevention in each question for the assessments.

What browsers should I use to take these assessments?

This site works best on the following browsers:

  • Microsoft Edge
  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Safari

This site is also accessible on mobile phone and tablet. In case you are having trouble viewing the content on your mobile phone or tablet, please switch to a desktop computer or laptop.

Who should take an assessment?

The assessments are a great way for all Malaysians to learn more about the factors that affect cancer risks.

Why are there assessments for different cancers?

Although some risk factors such as your age or being a smoker can increase your risk for many cancers, each type of cancer has its own set of risk factors. Our assessments are based on the latest scientific evidence and will help you understand the specific factors that increase or decrease your risk for each cancer.

What should I prepare before I start an assessment?

Before you start, you may want to gather as much information as you can about your height, weight, as well as your family cancer history. For some cancers, having a close relative (parent, sibling or child) who has been diagnosed with cancer can affect your risk.

How long are your data retained?

We take your privacy seriously. Your email address will not be shared with third parties. You may choose to save or print your results by providing your email address, or just click the ‘Submit’ button to get an instant result on the browser (if you do not wish for the results to be emailed to you). In all of these cases, we will retain your data for not more than five years for statistical study purposes.

Why is CARISA collecting personal information?

At your request, CARISA collects your email address to send you your cancer risk assessment results.
